    Astrophytum capricorne is a species of cactus native to northern Mexico. It is also commonly referred to as the Goat's Horn Cactus, as it's long spines are reminescent of the horns of a goat.

     

    This species can grow up to 20 inches tall, by about 4 inches wide, and grow in a ball or eliptical shape. The flowers are attractive and large, yellow with red centers.

     

    Astrophytum capricorne can be tolerant of cold temperatures, however must be grown in a warm, sheltered spot that does not freeze in the winters. Alternatively, this species does well growing under glass, in greenhouse environments. Like other species of cactus, this plant needs well-draining soil.

     

    Fun Fact: Astrophytum capricorne has won the UK's Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit!
