Astrophytum Myriostigma, also known as the bishop's cap cactus, is a variety of spineless cactus, native to the highlands of central and northeastern Mexico.

This species is characterized by usually 5 pronounced ribs, giving the plant its classic star shape. "Astrophytum" translates directly to "Star Plant".

As Astrophytum Myriostigma ages, more ribs can form, which gives the plant a more cylindrical shape. Some species in horticulture have a whiteish flocking of trichomes towards the root.

Fun Fact: This cactus can grow up to 2 - 3 feet tall while maintaining it's diameter of only 8 to 10 inches!
