Thelocactus hexadrophus is a solitary and variable cactus, natively growing in large numbers with many forms being found in the wild. Individual differences including the stems, spines, and flowers. So many differences are acknowledged, but are attributed to the variability of the species itself.
The color of the plant can be somewhat variable as well, often a olive of grey-green, and can eventually be tinged pink or purple. The spines are also red or reddish in color.
Thelocactus hexadrophus stays relatively small and is slow growing, but is easy to flower. Flowers are a silvery-white, or rarely pinkish.
