Ferocactus pottsii is a solitary species that can grow up to 1 meter tall, and 20 inches in diameter. This cactus features a range in number of ribs, from 13 to 25.
 
In bloom, it features cup-shaped yellow flowers, and afterwards yellow fruit.
 
This cactus can be found in the wild in the tropical deciduous pine forests in Mexico, from the elevation of 240 to 1000 meters.
 
Fun Fact: The name 'pottsii' is named in honor of John Potts, the director of the mint in Chihuahua.
