Opuntia Violacea AKA the Santa Rita Cactus, or the violet pricklypear, goes by many names. The classifications of similar species of cactus (and hybrids) complicate names and divisions between various Opuntia.

Other names Opuntia violacea may go by are Opuntia clorotica, and Opuntia gosseliniana.

This cactus is characterized specifically by the bright violet color the cactus pads can turn, hence the classification "violacea". These cactus pads can turn from a relatively normal shade of green to pink or purple or violet, depending on the stress of the plant.

As an example, a well-watered and cared for specimen of Opuntia violacea may not look all that different from a standard pricklypear. Specimens that are more exposed to strong sun, and receive less water, begin to turn a stunning shade of violet!

Please note: This listing is for single pads of Opuntia violacea, intended for propagation. The parent plant is watered and treated to an ideal environment for growing. Thus, cut pads are not guaranteed to be presently violet. As the pad propagates, and growing environment is adjusted to an ideal stress level, the cactus will again, turn violet.
